Conductor: Maj Tng Liat Peng, LTCL

Maj Tng Liat Peng started his music education at the age of ten under the tutelage of Mr. Lee Tuck Fah. While pursuing his education, he was named the Best Boy Cadet of the year 1985 and was awarded a music scholarship in 1987 for his contribution in the Singapore Polytechnic Concert Band.

In 1990, Maj Tng won another scholarship, this time to study at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall in London. In 1993, he graduated with several accolades which include the first prize in the 'Fanfare Award', the 'Fred Mortimer Memorial Competition'; second prize in the 'Besson Cup and Medal', the 'Sommerville Prize' and was awarded the 'Graham Wallace Award' for being the best Overseas Student Bandmaster of the year.

An adjudicator for the SYF Indoor and Outdoor Competitions, Maj Tng is presently the Senior Director of Music, Singapore Armed Forces Bands.

Music Director: Dr. Lee Tian Tee

Dr. Lee graduated from the Eastern Michigan University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Music (Trumpet Performance) degree under the Public Service Commission / Singapore Symphony Orchestra Music Scholarship. He joined the Singapore Symphony Orchestra after graduation. After the expiry of his bond with the Public Service Commission, he took conducting full time thus adding West Winds onto his list.

In his short stay with West Winds, Dr. Lee was integral in helping the band win its first Gold Award at the Singapore International Youth Music Festival in August 1996. He has constantly encouraged the band to expand its horizons and be bold to try new things. His constant faith and belief in the members have led many of them to admire him for his drive.

Though sad to see him leave for further studies in the United States, the band would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his contribution and are proud to have him as West Winds Music Director.
